Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
Maria I read where this has become one of the most quoted poems worldwide. A very melancholy yet uplifting piece.

Rumor has it that Mary first composed it on a brown paper shopping bag, and never published or copyrighted the poem. The unknown author claimed it much later in her life and research confirmed her words. I didn’t know it was popular. I found her poem during a dark time in my life, and it’s been my favorite ever since. Out of all the poems of the week I ever published on the blog, it’s the one you commented on – what can I say Mike…thank you from the bottom of my heart – 🙂
