Anticipated Memories

Anticipated Memories The wickedness of collapse, is that it comes in idle whispers. It takes you in its arms; numbing the yearning to dream. In quiet steps, it alters the world you thought was real. The present is misplaced, and in the depths of darkness you descend. You see a glimpse of truth in your attempt to trust. A faint spark of memory keeps coming back; There it is; nearest to your heart, that little thing called love. My muse had a charming way of bringing back the dead.    – In all its imperfections, it was a perfect World. … Continue reading Anticipated Memories

The Stolen Child

The Stolen Child Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand. Away with us he’s going, The solemn-eyed: He’ll hear no more the lowing Of the calves on the warm hillside Or the kettle on the hob Sing peace into his breast, Or see the brown mice bob Round and round the oatmeal chest. For he comes, the human child, To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world’s more full of weeping than … Continue reading The Stolen Child

Everything and Nothing – Day Two

Thought of the Day by Maria Fokas A Stolen Childhood  Does life repeat itself? In the news this morning, I heard that bullying is now a criminal offense, but in the States, all those years ago, it wasn’t. No one likes talking about having been bullied. Sharing moments of being degraded is seldom comforting. Maybe it’s difficult to talk about things we believe we have no control over. Hearing the news brought back a memory; not as cruel in comparison to many stories out there, but to a nine-year old, there is no such thing as a comparison to a … Continue reading Everything and Nothing – Day Two

Everything and Nothing – Day One

Thought of the Day by Maria Fokas Happiness Abound A simple thought I woke up to today. . . If you are not happy alone, you will probably never be happy with anyone else. A relationship is not meant to cater your wants, or to fill any black holes others may have scarred you with. A relationship is meant to celebrate the senses of life in the most imaginative ways, as you share yourself with another human being – to create paths together where there were none before – Now, that sounds like happiness! Let’s suppose this is the secret … Continue reading Everything and Nothing – Day One

In the Night of Sleep

In the Night of Sleep by Maria Fokas   “I will feel my way into it again, as I do every time I recall her story”, Marianna said to me. We sat on the deck of her summer beach home, with the endless sea stretched out before us. A vintage white table set between us, covered with a fragment of a past time; a delicate ivory laced tablecloth her grandmother had knitted in her youth. The soft ocean hushed between the faint melodies of singing birds. I could feel the sea air caressing my skin. She smiled and … Continue reading In the Night of Sleep

Metis

Metis  On blossomed branches, Hummingbirds rest in the scented shade. The soil is moist beneath my feet; What an odd place to find myself – No recollection of my treading here. Though it is a time for mourning, neither cries, nor tears to proclaim. A traveler has much ground to cover, and many regrets to misplace. I should have stayed with my first certainty: With no expectations, I would have been spared – As mountain-tops squander their flawless spring waters, Lovers ignore the passing of Time. And with my end so near, I could have shared some truths; Had it … Continue reading Metis

Featherless Wings

Photograph by Maria Fokas Featherless Wings  The branches dare to disturb; Moving in a motion that tangles their world. Their whispers; in the winds of passing seasons – The fear of triumph is absent, They are alive, that is their quest – Conversations of love do not break their delicate wings. Trees have wings? Wings without feathers; fly by the scent of their leaves. They capture the day, and stir the night. No words to torture their souls – They reflect on prolonged possibilities; And drink from the songs of passers-by.   © Maria Fokas/ Feb 17 2016/All Rights Reserved Continue reading Featherless Wings

Of Beauty

Of Beauty Love; an echo . . . a thread of faith – Into his eyes; tainted by a heritage of pain to embrace: Through the pillars of your birthright, the chant – Vibrating through the flesh of your skin: That echo . . . that echo of hymns. I wake up to the decades lost; the struggle of uncertainty – A hum treading beneath my screams. Such legacy of hope; forced upon me. An echo of faith . . . of beauty . . . of a dream. Love is nothing more than a spark; – within a captivated … Continue reading Of Beauty

The Rain

The Rain by Maria Fokas Oh that gentle rain, aching to come back, time and again. No warning to let you prepare. Like a bow and arrow to ruin your day. Can you plan around such a tease? Oh sweet rain, running free . . . I will keep your secret; and be grateful for thee.  Happy to welcome that gentle drop; On my lips, and down my neck; To whisper . . . I just like coming back – © Maria Fokas/all rights reserved, and Photo Credits/ 2017   Continue reading The Rain
