Simple Things

Simple Things by Maria Fokas

Precious things to hold onto;

Moments we have loved.

With time still left,

To love some more.

A day, a decade, hopefully two,

And wishing for more.

Soaring through life for the simple things,

Thankful each day for your generosity.

Oh my love; now I see,

That in the river of dreams,

A taste of cloves, and lemon drops,

Is all I’ll ever need.

Written in Darkness

Written in Darkness

Written in Darkness by Martin Hanley

Written in Darkness in the key of Light
Bound in a memory kept hidden out of sight
Golden the fissure, to mend the old anew
Where tall trees playfully whispered, of a paradise once true.

Fierce Waves

Fierce Waves

Fierce Waves by Maria Fokas

The salty hardness of the waves,

devoured her bare legs

as she plunged into their calling.

It is a blessing when the mood of the sea

can quench her thirst,

and soothe that burning desire

when he is away.

My Rose

“Of course, an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than all of you together, since she’s the one I’ve watered. Since she’s the one I put under glass, since she’s the one I sheltered behind the screen. Since she’s the one for whom I killed the caterpillars (except the two or three butterflies). Since she’s the one I listened to when she complained, or when she boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing at all. Since she’s my rose . . . She cast her fragrance and her radiance over me. I ought never to have run away from her… I ought to have guessed all the affection that lay behind her poor little stratagems. Flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to know how to love her…”

Enlightenment in Buddhism, a spiritual state marked by the absence of desire and suffering

“Like a flower in the summertime, so does our heart take refreshment and bloom. Our body is like a flower that blossoms and quickly withers. . . . Perish relentlessly and bloom once more, ye flowers who tremble and fall and turn to dust”.

The Scent of Connection

The Scent of Connection by Maria Fokas

And when I stumble upon a picture that takes my breath away – I stop, and take it. By that very click, I am not quite certain whether I am taking something that does not belong to me, or actually immortalizing that moment, in the realm of time. There truly is a story in everything; may it be in color, or the lack of it – may it be concrete, or abstract – a laugh or a cry; the spark of the story will always be there.
