love remembered

Apple of Discord

Among the Gods,

There is no compassion.

A world crafted by a spotless mind,

Can have no keys to any gate –

Lust grows in their hearts,

To disguise their only need;

Among the Gods,

There is envy of mortality.

They sacrifice love for sensual intrigue,

To fool a mortal’s path.

But her mind was filled with scars;

And her heart held his close; above all –

How unfortunate . . .

 That time was never on their side.

Anticipated Memories

 Anticipated memories IM

Anticipated Memories

The wickedness of collapse, is that it comes in idle whispers.

It takes you in its arms; numbing the yearning to dream.

In quiet steps, it alters the world you thought was real.

The present is misplaced, and in the depths of darkness you descend.

You see a glimpse of truth in your attempt to trust.

A faint spark of memory keeps coming back;

There it is; nearest to your heart, that little thing called love.

My muse had a charming way of bringing back the dead.

   – In all its imperfections, it was a perfect World.

Anticipated Memories; love remembered never goes astray.

Like notes of a forgotten melody; of a luring hidden moonlight –

In quiet steps, it takes back every moment you called love.

Within empty spaces of time, a struggle to recall.

The wickedness of collapse, is that it comes in idle whispers.

Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage

BMC

[There is a pleasure in the pathless woods] George Gordon Byron

   There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
   There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
   There is society where none intrudes,
   By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
   I love not Man the less, but Nature more,
   From these our interviews, in which I steal
   From all I may be, or have been before,
   To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.

   Roll on, thou deep and dark blue Ocean--roll!
   Ten thousand fleets sweep over thee in vain;
   Man marks the earth with ruin--his control
   Stops with the shore;--upon the watery plain
   The wrecks are all thy deed, nor doth remain
   A shadow of man’s ravage, save his own,
   When for a moment, like a drop of rain,
   He sinks into thy depths with bubbling groan,
Without a grave, unknelled, uncoffined, and unknown.

   His steps are not upon thy paths,--thy fields
   Are not a spoil for him,--thou dost arise
   And shake him from thee; the vile strength he wields
   For earth’s destruction thou dost all despise,
   Spurning him from thy bosom to the skies,
   And send’st him, shivering in thy playful spray
   And howling, to his gods, where haply lies
   His petty hope in some near port or bay,
And dashest him again to earth: —there let him lay.

Scars Set in Stone

Scars Set in Stone by Maria Fokas

Just because you buried our journey
Does not make it disappear
Just because you have forsaken me
Does not mean you never loved me
That I have succumbed to defeat
Does not mean I wanted to leave
Your silence never depicted indifference
As my smile did not prove a trace of hope

Of stories which trouble the heart
In words which sicken the soul
Everywhere an abundance of woe:
A half-finished love affair bound to crucifixion
A misdeed triggered to destroy a kind gesture
A deserted dream to leverage false sense of balance
Courage disintegrates in glass boxes of loose ties
Day races by as night pricks through the cracks of dawn

Oh, but to deny one’s place in this world
That would be the greatest crime of all

Little Boats

little Boats MH 2

Life Boats by Maria Fokas

Little boats stippled along the horizon of a golden sea;
Inside my head, taintless journeys with innocent intentions –
Temporary moments that last forever; recurring with seasons’ comings
Tenuous threads that never break, beautifully wrapping wasted space in time
Lifeless obstacles beneath the surface; like a vice, never committed
Exempt from the fear of loss; I gather my drifted self –

Bereft of a farewell kiss; {up in the sky} clouds cover me like an ivory laced blanket;
On the day of the dead, my life begins with antithetical inclinations of love –
Autumn frosted maple leaves in bittersweet hues, will fall on ashen streets
Tomorrow, I will be between spaces of togetherness; like little boats –
Scattered specks of destinies, never traveled to . . .

My Compass

Catrin Welz Stein

My Compass by Maria Fokas

The scent of hello(s); the cry in goodbye(s)
The melody of lyrics; in pictures and words –

Sonnets drawn on misty moments of forgotten first ideas
The beginnings in the morning; the endings each night
The key to memory; the compass to change –

In the breaking of your voice –
In the raging waves of oceans; all that was lost is found
From mountain peaks, to the other side of moonlight
I trace the whispers in your heart;

Once upon a time
A poem in a dream; when she was mine.

Crazy Love

never let go

Crazy Love

Have you ever heard of such nonsense . . .

+ There cannot be only one truth; the truth as an answer to a question?

– What makes the sun shine and the winds blow; do all things rest upon it; asking and answering the question yourself. . .

In the depths of dreams, it could be a will to be remembered.

The heart knows what the mind can’t fathom . . .

But then again, the heart seldom knows much of anything, until the ink drops.

A Thousand Years

A Thousand Years

It happened on the thousandth year;
From the center core of all our tears
It stirred the darkness into light
Souls were born from the depths of night:
A raging struggle; just to hold on
Like grave many times before

With doubtful eyes he smiled at me –
But one cold night, he could not sleep;
My hope had touched his lips
Out of the dream he ran to me
But time had given up on him

That mundane morning:
Like the journey of a butterfly
I awoke, with no more tears in me
My darkness had surrendered

By the Sea;
By the Mountains;
By the winds in our dreams;
I was set free

Soul Mate

Soul mate

Soul Mate by Maria Fokas

“Eat, Pray, Love: A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave. A soul mate’s purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master… – Elizabeth Gilbert”

Yes Elizabeth, it is all those things; But a soul mate who leaves, cannot be privileged with such a name. A soul mate is the soul which was ripped from you a moment in time, never to be remembered. An empty void awaits to be embraced, to be caressed, to be redeemed by the part of you who searches through eternity to reclaim that first breath together; before you were separated.

Once that comes to pass, there is no need to keep searching; to question what your soul has always known – And no amount of pain, or obstacles will tear you apart; not because you can endure the hardships; not because you don’t want to flee at times, but because without them nothing makes sense: The days are heavy; the distance between you troubles your hearts.

So you see Elizabeth; a soul mate that eventually leaves was never a soul mate to begin with: Maybe a friend; maybe someone searching to be found, or to be lost, but never a soul mate. In a world where dignity is losing its sense of grace; where significance is being drained by wasted time; It is the presence of your soul mate which renders a truth to purpose; their presence, even in their absence; and not their leaving.
