Underwater Waves [1]

Underwater Waves

How long can you stay under water before it is the end of you?

Can you get used to the pain to the point where you don’t feel it anymore?

As long as there is hope that you will breathe again, you struggle to survive under the waves.

You know that if you stay too long you will suffocate, but you fall into a trance.

You numb your lucid voice which tells you that you will never survive the waves.

If you wait too long, you will never swim back up to the surface.

To be continued . . .

My Darling

Burning Man

My Darling

And this child within;

Sometimes gets trapped in thoughts:

“Wish I knew what his heart was feeling.”

Love is a wilderness that cannot be tamed.

This child within,

 Sometimes dances to his subtle tunes; it seems.

She plays with fire, the same way he plays with words.

This child within,

lives in the present with great respect for the past;

Everybody knows how to walk through fire.

But to recall a burning heart without the flame;

It takes a gypsy’s soul  –

This child within,

Surrendered to her anger, but her rage disappeared,

Before the hour-glass was through.

This child within remembers,

The times she held his hand when he was lost.

She recalls,

The sound of his voice when he said hello.

The touch of his lips . . .  she forgot;

But not the way he held her close.

And, sometimes she recalls,

His promise to protect her.

She also remembers his distrust;

His fear that she might one day disappear.

But most of all, that thing she can’t forget;

How much she still cares.

So you see, with such a past –

There is nothing to forgive,

My Darling.

Black & White

 The grandest love story ever told;

Born out of each other; into every form.

Disguised to prevail against each other:

A hidden compass in my heart for your voyage –

Your waking choices, and your sleeping adventures;

And in this world; connected by the mask of time –

He seeks the reflection of all things in majestic balance.

He refers to the ice-burg as a wasted truth;

A mountain that touches the sky; upside down, he claims –

And that same sky on the other side,

Will never touch the sands beneath the oceans of you.

And though you are bound to change,

With every change of every moment –

You are still the same, my Love.

Oh, and how the Sun loved the Moon:

Forever devoted to crossing paths, but never to touch.

And some day I will know; some day in the ink of your thoughts –

And you will paint the darkness in my eyes with the light in yours.

Some day, the pauses between our notes will be soothed by your smile.

For what is music without rest between the melodies of notes?

Oh, how selfish must love become before it turns into hate;

And back into love again . . . but I have nothing to declare.

Some day I will know all the things that were left unsaid.

In laughter, and in cries –

In caress, and in vice –

You are the center of all things.

But in the end,

I may doubt all but one; you were my spark, and I your darkest joy –

– How our world would have been different,

If we could have agreed; at least on that.

“Forbidden Friendship”

Forbidden Friendship

Forbidden Friendship

Which starts with enchantment –

Which belongs to no one,

Which devours its expectations

Which feels unique at first glance

Which abides by no rules

Which traps itself in passion

Which begins to fear its existence

Which shares a weakness to stray

Which keeps secrets from itself

Which lies beneath the sins of a broken heart

Forbidden friendship; which is deadly to the touch

Love Curse

Love Curse

Racing through in slow motion, the ticking of time.

I cannot speak today;

A ruthless sharp haste to my beating heart.

Chaotic throbbing of a grand mistake.

The difference between love, and love

An ill confusion;

Misconceptions of a mystery.

In explanations, it disappears;

Time to say goodbye –

Oh why, am I lacking such a skill?

What keeps a heart wrapped around an evil hope?

Is it the way his words hold on, when he pushes me away?

Or his silent presence, lurking endlessly in my head?

Does he ever feel pain, when he hurts me?

In a faint whisper, I heard someone say;

“You always hurt, when you hurt the one you love.”

The difference between love, and love

Anticipated Memories

 Anticipated memories IM

Anticipated Memories

The wickedness of collapse, is that it comes in idle whispers.

It takes you in its arms; numbing the yearning to dream.

In quiet steps, it alters the world you thought was real.

The present is misplaced, and in the depths of darkness you descend.

You see a glimpse of truth in your attempt to trust.

A faint spark of memory keeps coming back;

There it is; nearest to your heart, that little thing called love.

My muse had a charming way of bringing back the dead.

   – In all its imperfections, it was a perfect World.

Anticipated Memories; love remembered never goes astray.

Like notes of a forgotten melody; of a luring hidden moonlight –

In quiet steps, it takes back every moment you called love.

Within empty spaces of time, a struggle to recall.

The wickedness of collapse, is that it comes in idle whispers.

Everything and Nothing – Day One

Eternal love 6

Thought of the Day by Maria Fokas

Happiness Abound

A simple thought I woke up to today. . . If you are not happy alone, you will probably never be happy with anyone else. A relationship is not meant to cater your wants, or to fill any black holes others may have scarred you with. A relationship is meant to celebrate the senses of life in the most imaginative ways, as you share yourself with another human being – to create paths together where there were none before – Now, that sounds like happiness! Let’s suppose this is the secret to every successful relationship, and see what happens; what do you think? Does it sound like I know what I’m talking about? Well, just for the record . . . I know nothing.

Featherless Wings

Mother Nature

Photograph by Maria Fokas

Featherless Wings

The branches dare to disturb;
Moving in a motion that tangles their world.
Their whispers; in the winds of passing seasons –
The fear of triumph is absent,
They are alive, that is their quest –
Conversations of love do not break their delicate wings.

Trees have wings?
Wings without feathers; fly by the scent of their leaves.
They capture the day, and stir the night.
No words to torture their souls –
They reflect on prolonged possibilities;
And drink from the songs of passers-by.

The Bridge Across the Sea

The bridge

The Bridge Across the Sea by Maria Fokas

On my death-bed, I say my last goodbye.
I do not utter his name; a forgiving tragedy;
And to his final question: I speak a lie.

I shall not shed another tear for the moments denied.
I shall not shed another tear for foolish twisted humanity –
I shall not shed another tear for that weakness to suppose.

Erase me from your past; . . . the years you have forsaken me –
Each genuine day;
Each generous hour;
A love I embraced: In pure desire, his lips I kissed –
Every bit of madness; the craziness that tempts the soul.
I took for caring: the longing, and the need –
Every plunge into the darkness of my fears;
The times we hid from that harsh world of ours;
The poetry they devoured; between our silence, and our words;
By your strife; my heart has turned to stone – Erase them all!

A fictitious reflection of me has passed away;
I did not utter his name, today.

I crossed the bridge; without his darkness in my arms;
I wish for no more time.
