Unrequited Hope by Maria Fokas Darkness in the center of light – if you will it into being, if you censor it, if you try to control it, you will destroy it. The darkness will fade into the light; the grip will weaken, the pain will sharpen. The traces of courage will unfold and reverse into you. The thrum of every second runs through the veins beneath the flesh of bodies, and of universes. Time has a direction I cannot fathom. But from order to disorder, and through paths of chaos, there remains a hope of truth. When time disappears … Continue reading Unrequited Hope
Wheel of Fortunes by Maria Fokas I woke up this morning; what a grand thing, to make it through the night. In all generalities, abstractions, and summaries, I can hear the ticking of life: The touch, the scent, and the taste of you, woven in my fairytales – And there, lies the generality of beauty – And there, lies the abstraction of love. Sketched in the mother of time; the secrets of our fate. © Maria Fokas 2015/All Rights Reserved – Art Photography by Julie-de-Waroquier Continue reading Wheel of Fortunes
The Circle of Time by Maria Fokas The flow of time in a dream It rushes by – It stands still You reach into that endless stream You grasp the haste of freedom Where light and darkness meet Where the old creates the new Where the scent of Green fades into the wake of Blue Like a string that binds my heart to you Into the past, by a thought; Into to the future, with a hope. © Maria Fokas 2015/All Rights Reserved – Photography by Martin Hanley Continue reading The Circle of Time
The Black Rose by Maria Fokas Once upon a time, there was a Rose, who would come to live in the memories of others. It started with a human hand planting a seed. The Rose and the hand were unique. No two entities could have been more diverse, but there was one thing they both shared, and that was their need to exist. So, the hand knowing that time was running out, decided to plant a seed which was predestined to becoming a Black Rose. And as the hand nurtured this seed into being, the Rose came to know life. … Continue reading The Black Rose
The Flame by Maria Fokas Like an Empress of Time, the Flame distorts the mind, dancing her seductive dance, as the wood crackles with each breath. But who keeps track of what is lost, as time goes by. The walls kindle in deep maroon, and time stands still again, then disappears into a darkness, and I dream of impossible things; of distant oceans, under the seas, with gentle crests of endless waves. Soft ripples that caress the sand, then retrieve back into the sea with a soft melody – hidden in the stir of the flame: In a world far … Continue reading The Flame
Rain-Drops by Maria Fokas I peeked out of my window this morning at 6 am. It had been raining all night. The misty damp air said, “Get back in bed”. But I keep my eyes on the rain, where stories come to life. It fervently thrums on roof-tops, and pavements; drip, drop, babble, drum – accent on the tempo, before another thrum. I make myself some coffee; my lips tease the blend before I take that sip, then I click on the saxophone. I succumb to those sensual pictures from the late 1940s and 50s before my time. They did … Continue reading Rain-Drops
In the Wake by Maria Fokas Your hand was not mine to hold, nor my lips, yours to kiss – But in that world, I held your hand, and you kissed my lips. Through a dark current; you drew in a path; An epiphany soared within a gush of promises. And before me, a wraithlike image distracts my wake. Unbidden streams of clauses – lacing bare-scented gestures. I render the smile in your eyes, the accent in your voice, And everything you claimed that was mine. That path; deep-seated, between the distance of land and sea; How unfortunate that temporal … Continue reading In The Wake
1. Forbidden Shells (Reality) by Maria Fokas I woke up this morning from the inside out; opened my eyes to a broken day – He asked me if I knew anything about reality, but who can claim to know? It would have to be an objective lad, but minds are subjective most of the time. Maybe there’s one percent that knows, but what would they say? : “I know that I cannot possibly be objective when cultured to think a specific way, and regardless of what I choose opposed to what I deny, could it be the inner voice of … Continue reading Forbidden Shells (Reality)
(Collaborative Poetry) In the days when poetry was all we had misery was sweet. Yearning was hidden in her thoughts; and in the tarrying of retreat. His lips used proper words – his whispers spoke of delicious scandals. In the night, her longing simmered in her dreams. And with the resting of her eyes, she could hear his voice break through the cracks of time: M.F. “A blindfold of forsaken moments lay bare and exposed. Twilight teasing – their tongues entwined – now whispers below, With slender fingers that dance upon a stilted frame. Nestling behind the hollow curve; the flowing fire is set aglow. Taste the divine, as … Continue reading EXPECTATIONS BETWEEN TIME
